Everything will be OK. Thanks to Jashua Noom for the original photo. We’re rather impressed with it’s modern but very homely, calming feel.

What is graphic design?
Don’t know who’s responsible for this beauty. I’d love to credit the creator, so if that’s you, let me know!

Finding the best #free fonts isn’t easy (except when we post them here), but it’s always good for business to have some extra out-of-the-box fonts on hand. That’s why we spend an hour or so per week searching the Web for its best-kept-secret fonts.

Metropolis by Josip Kelava is a beautiful, modern and exceptional font that takes its inspiration from the industrial trends of the 1920s. It’s rather simple, but despite its minimal simplicity, the font is quite a sight to take in. Each letter is cleverly constructed from dual lines that move in and out of each other to produce a thick, bold effect.

Download the free font pack directly from here, or get it straight form the source at Kelava’s personal website. He also has a lot of beautiful art posted at the site, so I suggest taking at least a few minutes to poke around. You might find your next wallpaper there.

As usual, the best font for any situation depends on a variety of factors, but if you find yourself itching for artistic, hand-drawn letters, you know where to find it. Download the fonts at Sincerely Peachy, or get ‘em straight from the source via the below links.

Color Psychology: How Colors Affect Our Emotions (and Ninja Turtle Identities)

image

By Fausto Mendez

Colors are a critical factor when designing ads, branding materials and marketing campaigns. That’s because, whether you know it or not, colors can evoke certain moods in most people - and Ninja Turtles.

During this morning’s reading spree, I stumbled upon an insightful list of colors and the emotions that each color evokes within people. .

Our favorite is, perhaps, black as it paints a picture of boldness and distinctiveness. We also love gray as a catalyst of authority. Certainly, these are useful considerations when dressing for a presentation, pitch or meeting, but you’ll want to add some “real” color when designing graphics in most situations.

Red tends to arouse feelings of passion and aggressiveness. Orange, on the other hand, signals fun and joy. Purple paints a picture of sophistication, and people tend to associate blue with dignity and authority. Did I just describe the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Yes, I did.

It turns out that the original creators of the Ninja Turtles follow this same color logic, assigning a personality to each turtle based on the emotions evoked by their chosen colors. We suggest you read the full list at Lost at E Minor to learn how each color affects people differently, but it’s also fun to imagine the Ninja Turtles that could have been but never were.
