Colors are a critical factor when designing ads, branding materials and marketing campaigns. That’s because, whether you know it or not, colors can evoke certain moods in most people – and Ninja Turtles.

During this morning’s reading spree, I stumbled upon an insightful list of colors and the emotions that each color evokes within people. .

Our favorite is, perhaps, black as it paints a picture of boldness and distinctiveness. We also love gray as a catalyst of authority. Certainly, these are useful considerations when dressing for a presentation, pitch or meeting, but you’ll want to add some “real” color when designing graphics in most situations.

Red tends to arouse feelings of passion and aggressiveness. Orange, on the other hand, signals fun and joy. Purple paints a picture of sophistication, and people tend to associate blue with dignity and authority. Did I just describe the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Yes, I did.

It turns out that the original creators of the Ninja Turtles follow this same color logic, assigning a personality to each turtle based on the emotions evoked by their chosen colors. We suggest you read the full list at Lost at E Minor to learn how each color affects people differently, but it’s also fun to imagine the Ninja Turtles that could have been but never were.
