Why Should I Use Pet Supplies For My Marketing?

National Pet Day

Pets.

They’re the cutest animals we share with our friends and family via social media or text.

We want people to see the adorable animal living in our households, am I right?

The cuteness factor is real when it comes to our pets and this is why it works for marketing.

It’s a soft side that people don’t mind reading or viewing.

For example, have you walked your dog out at the park? How many people go up to you or smile at you because of your dog.

You’re marketing yourself as an “approachable” person.

Vice versa, have you ever gone up to a person walking a cute little dog or holding a cute bunny?

This is the same way marketing works when we include animals.

So, I’ve asked my co-workers here at AnyPromo to share with me pictures of their pets.

All of these pictures, of course, will be going on all our marketing collateral for National Pet Day, so everyone is pretty excited!

Before I share those pictures with you, let me continue sharing with you important reasons why pet supplies will help your marketing skyrocket!

3 big reasons to include pet supplies in your marketing:

Targetting pet owners

Okay let’s get down to the numbers.

Can you take a guess as to how many people own a pet in the United States?

Well, according to the 2017-2018 APPA National Pet Owners Survey, 68% of U.S. households own a pet, which equals to 84.6 million homes in the United States.

That’s more than HALF the country.

If you want to own prime real estate in their homes, pet supplies are definitely the answer.

Now I know pets can range from dogs to birds to pigs to hamsters.

But, let’s get into the numbers of the top 2 pets most own.

The dog and the cat.

According to the 2017-2018 APPA National Pet Owners Survey, dog owners spend an annual $47 on toys and $235 on food, while cat owners spend an annual $30 on toys and also $235 on food.

What does that tell you?

Pet owners invest in their pets!

In my experience, I know for a fact I spend a lot on my dog every month.

Whether it’s on clothes or food, my dog is getting it.

So, how do these numbers help you?

Understand how many people invest in their pets.

Whether you’re trying to resell pet supplies with your company name on it, or trying to giveaway a free item, pet supplies are very successful for building brand awareness.

Cuteness Attracts

I remember reading an article in the past about using babies and pets in marketing because of the cute level.

I’m not going to lie, this marketing strategy works on me.

If your flyer includes a laughing baby or a dog smiling, I will highly read the small details on that flyer.

A really great example of this marketing is with Geico.

They’ve implemented their cute Geico Gecko and Maxwell the Pig.

You remember Maxwell’s infamous 1st commercial?

Up to this day, I find it cute and still remember the commercial word-by-word.

Consumers will remember your brand when you include something adorable in your marketing.

The other day I came across a company called Nulo Pet food.

I never heard of them before, but that day they were offering a free bandana in exchange for my email address.

Easy!

I gave them my email address, because yes, I wanted my dog to look cute in a bandana.

Once I got it, I definitely had to take a picture of her in her new swag.

I admit this picture is not the best and she may not have many followers, but Nulo Pet Food did gain a new customer!

Pets will love it and be thankful

When it comes down to it, I just hope the item I give to my pet makes them happy.

If the bird feeder helps feed the birds outside, I’m sure they’re going to be singing with joy.

Whether it’s a custom item or a promotional item, pet owners want the most for their pets.

If your pet looks great in custom bandanas, leashes, collars, etc., then they won’t mind walking around advertising your logo or your design!

Use this concept to make the most out of a promotional pet supply.

A great example of pet supplies that make dogs really happy is the BarkBox.

BarkBox is a subscription to receive  “at least 2 innovative toys, 2 all-natural bags of treats, and a chew”.

You bet this box makes dogs wagging-happy!

I only heard about the BarkBox when I went over my best friend’s house.

Her dog was loaded with toys and I asked her about it.

That’s when she told me about them and I thought it was a great idea!

Pet supplies win with everyone!

As I promised, here’s a fun collage of some of my coworkers’ pets. Enjoy 🙂

Peel away the layers and she can make you cry...from laughter, that is. Actually maybe she's not an onion, because she smells wonderfully. So yea, she's still figuring herself out. ✌
